Get an expert? Really? or is good enough OK?

Posted by Tanya Greedy on Sunday, June 27, 2010,
When we meet someone or see something new for the first time our brains create an automated programed response to decide if we like or dislike.

A great example of getting an expert was the Christchurch regional stand at the Meetings Expo recently in Auckland. The design and build company they hired created an outstanding environment using a concept which very rarely works at exhibitions well but, in this case worked  on so many levels. On the other hand I also saw stand graphics which had bee...

Do shoes make a difference?

Posted by Tanya Greedy on Sunday, June 13, 2010,
How important are your shoes when you're on your feet at expo's for 3 days straight?

I was out taking a walk today and looking in a few shop windows when I noticed this seasons shoe fashions. The wedge is back again and that started me thinking about a chat I had recently with a woman on day 3 of an expo.

Shoe tips:
First of all no matter how much effort you put in, man or woman, by day 3 your feet will hurt.

For the Guys;
Men are easier, pick shoes which are worn in, comfortable and if po...

Carbon Footprints

Posted by Tanya Greedy on Thursday, June 10, 2010,
Giant feet sitting under your building? ... I can't help visualising this every time I think of the 'new' being green catch phrase. I'm going to find out all about it next week. Sustainable events is the big thing at the moment and New Zealand is doing their part to create a better world. But what does it really mean for event organisers and exhibitors? I'm making it my mission over the next few weeks to find out and to let you know in some simple to understand points and examples, stay tu...

Convene 2010 – To Plan or not to plan?

Posted by Tanya Greedy on Wednesday, June 9, 2010,
Out of 167 exhibitors I've had 24 contact me since the expo. This is a reflection of how many businesses actually plan a strategy and then implement it. We all now the old saying "If you don't plan to succeed then you plan to fail". This is not totally true, most businesses get something out of attending an expo but why would you not want to do your best? I really enjoyed Convene this year, I attended as a buyer rather than an exhibitor for a change. Putting aside a whole day I spoke to ab...

Are Expo's like retail shopping?

Posted by Tanya Greedy on Wednesday, June 9, 2010,
As our brains develop there are certain things we hear whereupon we switch to auto pilot. Our responses include, “just looking”, “No thanks”, the questions are, “Hi, can I show you something” and “Hi, how are you”. Most of us who attend expo’s and conferences will browse. If there are specific companies we go to see we have no problem approaching them to discuss a specific topic or see a certain product however, when browsing, just like in a gift or clothing store we tend ...

BIZZONE 2010 - Auckland

Posted by Tanya Greedy on Wednesday, June 9, 2010,
"They" say, "those who can't do, teach". I heard this again just recently from a visitor at Bizzone.

Well, I'd like to, as many have, contribute to putting a stop to this myth.

I work with people in business who are exhibiting at exhibitions and conferences and want help, I'm a planner.

The last time I worked on an exhibition stand was April of 2009 and since then a lot has happened. The short version is that now I teach how to exhibit.

I've been on many different sides of the fence when ...
